Portakal Hafiz Mosque

 

Portakal Mosque, one of the forgotten, abandoned and deserted historical heritages of Kocaeli, was re-built by the order of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, remaining faithful to its original state and was opened for worship in the 2007 Night of Decree. The historical Portakal Mosque in izmit Akcakoca Neighborhood is known as one of the symbols of Kocaeli.

 

In consequence of the historical building being abandoned to its fate for long years and starting to break down, the Metropolitan Municipality took action. A Project was prepared and the historical building was rebuilt in order to win it once more to people of the city Portakal Mosque, built from masonry bricks put over a wooden skeleton, consists of two storeys.
